Engineer -
The Application Engineer
(AE) will be responsible for the balanced integration of the engine with propulsion
system into the vehicle platform variants and vehicle manufacturing
plants. The AE will achieve those necessary results though close teamwork
with Propulsion System Engine Program Team (PET/PAPIR), Hardware Resource
Center (Design Release Engineers), Vehicle Integration Teams, and the engine
and vehicle manufacturing teams. The AE will work to identify propulsion
system related integration issues and drive cross-team discussions to resolve
these issues affecting the engine and propulsion system. Report out of
critical information to Program team and design reviews as necessary. The
AE, along with the Propulsion System Vehicle Systems Engineer (VSE), will act
as the communication conduit between Propulsion Systems and the Vehicle
Key Responsibilities
  • Help drive balanced Sub-System
    Technical Specs (SSTS), Integration Communication Documents (ICDs), and
    vehicle/propulsion integration fidelity
  • Understand, coordinate, and
    communicate Vehicle Spec Change Requests (CRs) to Engine Team and support
    VSE in development of responses to CRs
  • Communicate necessary Engine
    Team issues effecting integration to VSE
  • Support Propulsion System/
    Vehicle integration issue resolution
  • Proactively drive successful
    propulsion system integration at vehicle Pre-Production build sites and at
    Vehicle Assembly Plants (i. e. attend build events) through support of
    correct content and timely issue resolution via Engineering Work Orders
    where necessary
  • Support propulsion/platform Development
    Vehicle updates working with the Engine Team
  • Review of Parts Lists for dress
    part fidelity
  • Engagement of the necessary Subject
    Matter Experts for integration issue resolution
  • Identify necessary vehicle
    hardware for propulsion system dyno usage and support Parts list creation
Qualifications Required Skills and
  • Understanding of engine
    components and function
  • Basic understanding of
    propulsion system to vehicle integration
  • Ability to develop a business
    case for design alternatives
  • Demonstrated ability to
    effectively drive and document team discussions
Preferred Skills and
  • 5 years of experience at GM (7+
    years of experience as an engineer overall)
  • 2 years Design Release Engineer
  • Master Degree in M. E. or E. E.
  • Background in engine
    validation, engine calibration, and Pre-Production Operations.
Education and Training
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical
    or Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to develop
    presentations and present concisely
  • Basic knowledge of Propulsion
    System and Vehicle Matrix organizations
  • Background as an engine Design
    Release Engineer, engine Calibrator, or engine Model Year Manager
